THERAPY FOR DEPRESSION

Let's talk

what is depression?

  • Depression is more than just feeling sad or having a bad day. Everyone feels down sometimes, but depression is when those sad, empty, or hopeless feelings last for weeks or even longer, and they start to affect your daily life.
  •  It’s like your brain gets stuck in a fog, and things that used to feel normal or fun just don’t anymore. And it’s not something you can just “snap out of.” It’s a real medical condition that affects your mind and body—and it’s treatable with support, therapy, and sometimes medication.

Do these sound familiar?

Do you feel tired all the time, even after sleeping?

Lost interest in things you used to enjoy?

Struggle to concentrate or make decisions?

Feel worthless or guilty?

We can begin your healing process, together we will work through your depression.

What you can expect during Therapy for depression

Talk it out - safely

I will listen without judgment as you talk about what you’re feeling, thinking, and going through. Together we'll make sense of it and figure out ways to manage or change it.

Understand what's going on

We would work together to understand where your depression might be coming from - (past experiences, stress, negative thinking patterns, hereditary, etc.)

We will discuss how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are all connected, which will allow you to
become more aware of how your mind works so you can start taking more control over it.

Learn New Skills

We will discuss and put into practice new skills which will allow you to cope better. Some common things you might learn are:

  • How to challenge your negative thoughts
  • How to set small manageable goals to build momentum
  • How to make your body feel more relaxed
  • How to improve sleep, routines, or relationships

It takes time

Therapy isn’t instant. You won’t feel better after just one session, but most of my clients start noticing changes after a few weeks. Some days might feel harder than others, but the process can be really healing in the long run.

It's a team effort

We will work together but you are in the drivers seat - you're the expert on yourself! Based on what feels right to you we'll figure out how to reconnect with your values; rebuild your confidence and find the the things that bring you joy and purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at lisa@sassopsychotherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Depression is different for each person, but some of the most common signs are; feeling really down or sad most of the time; losing interest in things you once enjoyed; feeling tired all the time; changes in your sleep pattern; changes in appetite or weight; trouble concentrating; feeling worthless or guilty; feeling hopeless or empty; physical aches and pains; thoughts of death or suicide.

Therapy is different for each person, most of my clients tend to see an improvement within a few sessions.

Medication is not always necessary to treat depression. Therapy alone can be exceptionally helpful for some individuals, while others benefit from both therapy and medication. If you are interested in incorporating medication we can discuss working alongside your doctor.
